What we collect, and why

Visit statistics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics 4 to learn how many people read each page, how they found the site, and roughly where in the world they are. We use it to decide what to write and what to fix. It records the pages you view, when, information about your device and browser, when you scroll to the bottom of a page, and when you click a link that leads to another site, together with the address of that link. That last one includes affiliate links.

Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies in your browser, called _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier. By Google's default they last two years. The first tells one visitor from another. The second keeps a visit together. They hold a random identifier, not your name or e-mail address.

Google says that when Google Analytics collects data it does not log or store IP addresses, and that it uses the IP address to run and protect the service and to give us a sense of where in the world visitors come from. Google's own description is in Safeguarding your data. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors.

We keep event data, such as which pages were viewed, for 2 months, and user-level data tied to a cookie or identifier for 14 months, after which Google Analytics deletes it. Reports that only show totals are not affected by that setting.

Google provides this measurement service to us. What Google does with information from sites that use its services is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Your light or dark choice

If you switch between the light and dark theme, the site saves your choice in your browser's local storage under the name theme. It stays on your device, and we never receive it.

Server records

Our host, Hostinger, delivers the site. Like most web hosts, it may keep server records that include IP addresses and the pages requested. We do not use those records to identify visitors.

E-mail you send us

If you write to editors@sleepanchors.com, we receive your address and what you write. We use it to reply and, if you found a mistake, to correct it. We do not add you to any list and we do not share your message.

What we do not collect

  • Names, accounts or passwords. There is no sign-in.
  • Payment details. We do not sell anything on this site.
  • Anything you type into a form, because the site has none.
  • Your name or e-mail address, unless you write to us.

Affiliate links

Some guides link to a product through an affiliate program. When you click, you leave this site. The seller and its affiliate network, such as ClickBank, set their own cookies and collect their own data under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. If you buy, the seller handles your payment and we do not see your payment details. The link carries labels that name the guide it came from, for example the campaign name, and not you. The affiliate disclosure explains how we earn money.

Who else handles data for this site

  • Google, for visit statistics.
  • Hostinger, for hosting.
  • The seller and its network, only if you click an affiliate link.

We do not sell personal information.

Your choices

  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them.
  • Google offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics from measuring your visits to any site: Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
  • You can clear the saved theme from your browser's site data.
  • You can ask us what we hold, or ask us to delete an e-mail you sent, at editors@sleepanchors.com. The visit statistics are not tied to your name, so we cannot look up a person in them.

Some U.S. state laws give residents rights over personal information, such as the right to know, correct or delete it. Write to us at the same address if you want to use one.

Children

This site is written for adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Where this site is aimed

Sleep Anchors is written for readers in the United States. We have not built it to meet the privacy laws of other countries.

Changes to this policy

When what we collect changes, we update this page and the date at the top. If we add a sign-up form or another service that collects data, this page changes before it goes live.
